The structural heart disease subspecialty features all diagnosis and treatment for the full spectrum of patients with adult or pediatric congenital heart disease. The team provides state-of-the-art care for congenital heart defects, including minimally invasive procedures for the following: atrial septal defects, ventricular septal defects, patent ductus arteriosus and pulmonary valve stenosis. The team also treats with other complex or rare malformations, which include coarctation of the aorta, coronary artery fistula, rupture of sinus of valsalva aneurism and so on.
In addition, the patients suffering from valvular heart diseases, who don't require major surgery, are in our treatment range. They need interventional therapy, such as mitral balloon dilatation, paravalvular leakage closure, transcatheter pulmonary valve implantation and transcatheter aortic valve replacement. Comprehensive managements of cardiogenic stroke are the department’s new programs which are left atrial appendage closure for patients with atrial fibrillation, and patent foramen ovale closure.
The subspecialty also focuses on pulmonary vascular disease (PVD), including pulmonary arterial hypertension with/without right heart failure, and chronic thrombus embolic pulmonary hypertension. Our specialists are committed to advancing care for their patients, providing evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of these PVD by right heart and pulmonary artery catheterization. Other rare PVDs including pulmonary arteriovenous fistula, pulmonary branch stenosis, pulmonary vascular aneurysm, pulmonary sequestration, pulmonary vascular stenosis resulting from fibrosing mediastinitis and pulmonary vein stenosis are also our care by clinical interventional therapy.
As an intervention training base of the Ministry of Health, the team leads through its educational efforts.
